How Does Lightning Cause a Fire?

Most cloud- to- ground lightning strikes come from the negatively charged bottom of the cloud traveling to the positively charged ground below. These lightning strikes can cause fire and property damages. If you're the tallest object, then lighting can strike you.
During the five-year-period of 2007-2011, NFPA estimates that U.S. local fire departments responded to an estimated average of 22,600 fires started by lightning per year.
